Sunday Stitching

Before I get going.  Have you entered the Give Away yet?  Its open until Sunday evening, and you will find it here.

Sunday afternoon I spent making the last of the blocks I needed for the Broken Dishes blocks I have been making.  I needed 5 more.

They are not onerous, but I am heartily sick of them!  The half square triangle blocks were made as a leader/ender project, and then I have had several attempts at the blocks themselves, so its been around a long time.  I have some pretty fabric for the sashing, and I will put 2" cornerstones between the blocks, so it is a way off completion still.  I actually think this will be a pretty quilt when it is done.

A month or so before Christmas one of the ladies at Friday Quilters gave me a bundle of 11 blocks which she did not want any more.  So last Friday I took them with me to start work on them.  I will be making this for Stitching Hearts.

I have selected 9 of the blocks.......

They are all really beautiful.  A mixture of pieced and appliqued blocks, and quite complex.  I decided that rather than attempting to replicate the style and colours, I would simply lay it out 3 x 3 with sashing.  The background fabric was not uniform in size, so on Friday I squared them all off at 13" square.  This was when I realised that the applique on the butterfly had not been done.  So I started on that on Sunday evening in front of the television.

I have picked up a couple of fabrics to sash the blocks, and am planning to piece the sashing - two 1/2" strips of green, one each side of the patterned fabric, the whole lot to end up at 3" wide finished.

Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.  Can't imagine why Julia didn't want it any more after all the hard work she did.  Thank you Julia!

I am going to link this up rather late to Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts.  Kathy's post for that is rather mind boggling.  She has counted how many inches of binding she has sewn down this past year!  Gasp!!

Til next time.....Keep on stitching.
