Grow Your Blog

Hello regular visitors, and a big welcome to anyone visiting from the Grow Your Blog Party.

The idea of the Grow Your Blog party is to grow your blog!!

It is hosted by Vicki, without charge, for anyone who wishes to participate.  This year there are over 500 people participating.  What a load of work that girl has taken on.  A huge thank you to Vicki for devoting the time to do this.

My name is Dasha and this blog is all about my addiction to fabric and the sewing machine.  I ramble a bit, and sometimes vary the content with stuff about my family which consists of the Dearly Beloved (DB) & my lovely tribe of grandies;

the garden;

the faithful puss (Tibby) who is always on hand to help with my quilting

and stuff that goes on around me.

I began sewing as a child of about 5 or 6, when I made clothes for my dolls.  I progressed to making dolls clothes for my daughter when she appeared, and these days I make them for the grandies.

In early Primary School I also learnt to do simple embroidery and to knit.   As I grew up, there were sewing classes at school (which I hated), and I progressed from dolls clothes to clothes for myself, (and later on my family)

Check out those fashions!

Money was tight in our household, so making my own clothes was a bonus.  I learnt to sew on Mum’s Singer treadle machine (wish I still had that), and I have been sewing ever since.  All that has survived from that early period is a hideous  handkerchief holder I made for my Mum when I was about 10 or so (why do I still have it??)

and a knitted blanket completed when I was 17, and still use some times.

My crafting world changed in 1988 when I discovered patchwork, and since then I have outfitted the entire family, including in-laws and out-laws with quilts.  There are numerous babies and friends strewn all over the world who have something quilty made by "auntie Dasha".

Now most of my sewing is done for the charity group I sew with, Stitching Hearts

I discovered Blogs about 18 months ago, and launched into one of my own in January last year.  I love blogging.  I love reading them, writing them and participating in bloggy challenges.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you will pop by again some time soon.

And remember to wander over to 2 Bags Full to visit some of the other players in the Grow Your Blog party.

Til next time.....Keep on stitching

  3. Oooo - fun! I'm so glad to stop by and see your work. I don't sew as I used to year ago, and I really must get back to it -- I have a yarn addiction, and crocheting and knitting seem to take up my spare time. Blessings!

  8. I still love making doll clothes, too, especially for Barbie. I think because she can't tell me what she wants so I can do anything. Your quilts look beautiful. Love the one on your sewing machine, as well as Tibby.

  23. Hi Dasha, I'm still randomly jumping around for the GYB hop and definitely had to come visit (and follow) one of the very few Aussie blogs! My Mum had an old Singer too, gorgeous thing it was and an absolute work horse. I'm determined this year to learn how to sew with a machine so I've booked myself into a one day basics course in June to give myself a bit of a kickstart. Mum used to make a lot of our clothes and I loved it so I want to do the same for my kids before they are too old to complain about it!

  31. Hi, Dasha - I am so glad you visited me this afternoon, as it brought me to you sooner...dealing with some health issues and doctors right now, and not getting further along in my reading because of it. You're quite the prolific quilter (I quilt too, as well as sew, knit and make jewelry). Love your little piece of blogland...all but for the snakes up above! Happy Tuesday - Tanya
